Eastern Canada Health Outcomes Meeting: Advances and Challenges in Using Quality of Life (QOL) and other Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs)

The conference will address some of today’s challenges in using patient reported outcomes (PROs) such as being able to choose among hundreds of measures and interpret the results with respect to classical and modern psychometric theory and to longitudinal change. The conference will begin with 3 workshops (Introduction to Quality of Life: Historical Perspective to present states of the art and science (Sharon Wood-Dauphinee); Designing PRO-QOL research: Optimal strategies for study design (Nancy Mayo); A framework for specifying outcome measures for complex interventions (Richard Osborne). The rest of the conference will feature internationally known key note speakers as well as submitted oral and poster presentations. Prizes for best presentations by a student will be awarded. EORTC COURSE ON QUALITY OF LIFE, SYMPTOM RESEARCH AND PATIENT REPORTED OUTCOMES IN CANCER CLINICAL TRIALS, 25-27 November 2009, Brussels, Belgium

This symposium aims to cover a broad range of topics in HRQOL, Symptom Research and Cancer Clinical Trials. It will address recent developments of EORTC tools, as well as other measures for use in cancer clinical trials, but also have a much broader focus including discussing international developments and research guidelines for USA FDA, EMEA and HRQOL in oncology. The 25 faculty members are international key opinion leaders who will be able to provide a diverse view on HRQOL within the context of clinical trials research, from conception to analysis and final publication. Registration is free for academics and fellowships bursaries are also offered for a limited number of places to help sponsor young investigators to attend the meeting.
